About

We here at Granite Hills would like to congratulate the 16 IB students from the class of 2009 who earned their full Diploma!  Seven of these students earned 30 points or more and so will go into college basically as sophomores! Way to go!

The purpose of this website is to provide information to the students, parents, and the community of Granite Hills High School concerning the Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs. It includes links to both of the home websites for each of these programs as well as information on how to contact GHHS personnel to answer your questions and to provide the services students might need to help them succeed in the program of their choice. At the bottom of each page there is space to post a comment or a question. Leaving a message or question prompts an email to the AP/IB Coordinator and you will get a reply if one is necessary.

Figuring out which classes to take can be confusing and we hope the information here will help you decide on a course of study. Many people ask which program is better, the AP or the IB, and the best answer we can give is that they are both excellent programs, they both help prepare students for college, and they both give high school students the opportunity to not only take college level courses in high school but also earn college credit at the same time. The testing methods are a little different and the courses follow specific guidlines that differ as to focus but both are a rigorous course of study that will challenge students.  The final decision will depend on the student’s personality, interests, goals, and objectives.

  1. McCarthy,

This blog looks good! Nice job. Quick question, Do you know when the school is going to have the first aid seminar that fulfills the state first aid requirement? Several IB kids have been asking, and the counseling office is not sure yet.

  2. Kathleen,
I have spoken with Mrs. Tribble about this. She is qualified to do this class and probably will as soon as I set it up with her. There is also an online program you can do. I think the website is: http://www.firstaid.com but I’ll have to check it out. As soon as I know one way or the other I will let you all know.

  3. Mr. McCarthy,

Did you ever find out if the online first aid program is acceptable for credit? Or is there a course offered at GHHS for this? Could you please post the answer. If available, an online course would be a great option for busy students. Thanks.

  4. We do offer a free First aid course on campus and Ms. Tribble even does a session just for IB diploma students (and whoever else wants to). I am pretty sure there is an online version as well but I will have to check that out further.

  5. I noticed in a post dated March 19th, you referenced this web site: http://www.firstaid.com as possibly meeting the first aid requirement. Does this in fact meet the requirement? Thanks!
